Starting a new business or processing payroll in a new state?

Before you run payroll, you must register with that state's tax and labor agencies to obtain employer account numbers. Use the table below to find direct registration links for each state. If a state uses a single combined portal for both accounts, that will be noted.

What You'll Need to Register

  • Legal business name and address (physical & mailing)
  • Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) — for existing businesses
  • Business start date and first payroll date in the state
  • Names, titles, and Social Security Numbers of business officers/owners
  • NAICS code and nature of business description
